Donkeys - Tips on Buying
Donkeys make wonderful pets and companions. Obtaining a donkey is not a simple matter. If you are inclined to buy a donkey, first and foremost, you have to educate yourself on the health and care problems you and your pet might face. It is important to know that there are many donkey breeds.
Secondly, if you are sure that the donkey is a pet for you, it is high time to find out whether you are suitable for the donkey. A minimum of one acre of well-fenced land adjoining your home is a necessary requirement for keeping a donkey.
Donkeys are herd animals. It is recommended to keep at least two donkeys, which can be a problem, if you have a lack of space. It goes without saying; donkeys will need shelter somewhere from the rain and the wind. Remember that their coat is not waterproof and they can easily catch a cold.
Naturally, donkeys will require your time and attention. Though they are considered low maintenance pets, you will need to check your donkeys at least twice a day to make sure they are doing well.

It is important to realize the responsibility you face when you decide to breed donkeys. You have a right to breed only if are sure your donkey has the conformation, health and disposition conformity. You need to be one hundred per cent positive you have found suitable homes for the future donkeys. Otherwise, be prepared to take up the responsibility of donkey ownership yourself.
Before breeding, consider if you have enough room for another donkey and whether you can afford the inevitable expenses. Having the life expectancy of 40 years plus, donkeys are quite a lifetime commitment for the owner.
